Open-cell and closed-cell polyurethane foams

Types of spray polyurethane foam

Its density is about 8,5kg/m.

It’s mostly used as:

Thermal insulation and acoustic insulation of attics (attic insulation),

Thermal insulation and insulation of partition walls in frame construction buildings (building insulation)

Spraying polyurethane foam  is carried out directly on roof’s outer surface using special equipment. After applying the foam, it multiplies its own volume about 120 times, filling all empty and hard to reach places. Thanks to it there are no thermal bridges. It guarantees perfect robustness of insulation. Foam applied this way is ready to be coated with sheetrock. Thanks to open cells it ensures frame breathing which increases comfort in our apartment.

In comparison to traditional insulation, open-cell system has lower thermal conductivity than mineral wool or Styrofoam. This allows to apply much thinner layer of polyurethane foam and creates larger cubic capacity of a room. We also eliminate additional materials cost: nails, vapour barrier foil, adhesives etc. Polyurethane foam is perfect for thermal insulation of attics and building renovation.

Open-cell foam’s structure enables free diffusion form inside of a building through insulation, just like in case of mineral wools. That is why we need space ventilation which is created the same way as with mineral wool. It requires installing a membrane but with cavity left so that vapour and condensates can be easily removed. Open-cell polyurethane foam has thermal properties similar to those of mineral wool or Styrofoam, but with that difference that in ready. Open-cell foam insulation there are no joints and the material sticks to the surface firmly, preventing thermal bridges from appearing. That is why it gives better thermal protection than traditional insulating materials.

Contains minimum 90% of closed cells. Thanks to its physical properties and technical parameters it is an excellent material for thermal and hydro insulation used in industrial buildings and general construction. Its density depends on purpose.

Foams with density of 41,5kg/m³ are mostly used for:

Roof insulation from inside of a building

Wall insulation in industrial buildings (animal housing)

Vapor barriers of roofs covered with sheet, pipeline insulation, tank insulation

Foams with density of 51kg/m³ are mostly used for:

thermal and hydro insulation of flat roofs and foundations

This technology is about applying rigid polyurethane foam on a surface. During gelation process the foam multiplies its density up to 40 times which allows it to reach all cavities and, at the same time, it creates hard, even, protective layer. As little as 3 cm layer of the foam gives proper hydro insulation and prevents water from condensation. That, in turn, prevents construction corrosion.

Because of its adhesion polyurethane foam can be put on any surface. It solidifies quickly so the foam doesn’t get off. When it can be exposed to UV, it is covered with a special paint. This also gives additional hydro insulation and enhances aesthetic value.

Universality of closed-cell polyurethane foam makes it a versatile insulating material.
